The Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, has taken a bold step by shutting down all expenditures of the state government until Governor Siminalayi Fubara presents his budget before the House. According to Channels news report, this move comes after a seven-day ultimatum given to the governor to present his budget expired.

Major Jack, the Leader of the House, brought the motion to the floor, informing the House of the ultimatum's expiration. After deliberation, the lawmakers voted to shut down the Rivers State Consolidated Revenue Account, effectively preventing Governor Fubara's administration from making any financial transactions on behalf of the state.

This highlights the ongoing tension between the executive and legislative arms of government in Rivers State. The Assembly's decision aims to ensure accountability and transparency in the state's financial management. The governor is now compelled to present his budget to the House, paving the way for a more collaborative approach to governance.
