Yahaya Bello Challenged EFCC To Put Up The Invitation If They Have Any - David Chijioke Maduka

David Chijioke Maduka, a member of the former governor of Kogi State's legal team, has claimed that there is no proof that the EFCC sent Yahaya Bello a formal invitation.

He maintained that Yahaya Bello has himself challenged the EFCC to provide any records attesting to his invitation for interrogation.

He went on to say that an arrest may only be lawfully made if the target of the arrest is there in person and able to be taken into custody.

In addition to expressing Bello's worry that his personal freedom is in jeopardy, he hinted that there could be more going on than just an invitation to appear before the anti-graft agency.

In an interview with Arise TV, he stated, ''Our point is, has EFCC even done the thing they are supposed to do? If someone is not close to you, the law requires that you invite him."

"There is no document anywhere to show that Yahaya Bello was invited by the EFCC. He had challenged them to put up the invitation if they have any. And the only way you can bring a suspect before you is by arrest."

"And the law says an arrest is sufficient if you have your hands on the person you want to arrest. But in this case, there is none. So he has the right to say I have not been invited."

"The EFCC can formally write to him, but there is no formal document before the public."

"The fear of Yahaya Bello is that his liberty is being threatened. It appears that there is something going on rather than just inviting him to appear before the EFCC. He is willing to appear before the court.''
