Senator Yeni Adaramodu, who is both the Senate Spokesperson and an Ekiti South senator, has claimed that problems inside the executive branch cannot be solved by cutting funding from the National Assembly. In particular, he spoke to the worries about the National Assembly's budget not covering the allowances and salaries of SANU and NASU members.
He maintained that lawmakers should not be expected to spend their own funds to pay for these bills, and that the National Assembly should not be held responsible for them. He elaborated by saying that the Ministry of Education receives funding from the administrative branch, the courts and allied agencies from the judiciary, and legislative operations are funded by the National Assembly.
The three branches of government each have their own budget, he explained to Channels TV. The problem with the ministry of education manifests itself in the executive budget. Within the Judiciary, many agencies, including the Court, appropriate funds. Legislation is then handled by the National Assembly.
Our budgets are separate, therefore. No amount of what is rightfully ours as senators can be given up to appease the president. The current controversy revolves around the fact that the National Assembly's budget does not cover the allowances and salary of SANU and NASU members.
