Pique names 3 current Barcelona stars who can get into sextuple winning squad
According to Sportskeeda, Gerard Pique, a famed defender for Barcelona, recently discussed the current team and the prospects of certain individuals for a spot on the famous sextuple-winning club of 2009.
Surprisingly, Pique passed on the much-touted young players Pedri and Gavi in favor of three current talents from Barcelona—Pau Cubarsi, Lamine Yamal, and Raphinha—who could one day be part of the legendary squad.
Key member of the 2009 squad that won a historic six titles under Pep Guardiola's guidance, Pique made significant remarks in an interview with Marca (via Daily Mail). Lionel Messi, Xavi, and Andres Iniesta were just a few of the gifted players who helped the squad reach its pinnacle of success.
Pique said that very few players on the current squad possess the skill and ambition to compete with the 2009 squad when questioned about the current roster. To be recognized among the all-time greats, he said, the present players must prove themselves worthy, and the only way to do that is to win major championships.
Notably, Pique disregarded Pedri and Gavi, who were both touted as potential future stars for the club. It appears from Pique's remarks, though, that he thinks they have more work to do before they can be ranked among the top.
He has instead singled out Cubarsi, Yamal, and Raphinha as three players with 2009 team potential. All three of Barcelona's star performers this season—Cumarsi, Yamal, and Raphinha—bring something special to the team.
A breath of fresh air has been breathed into the team's midfield by Cubarsi, who has been nothing short of spectacular. His vision and inventiveness have been missed in recent years. With his lightning speed and incredible technique, Yamal has been absolutely terrifying for opposition defenses.
Meanwhile, Raphinha's pace and agility have made him a constant danger down the wing, where he can beat defenders and set up teammates for goals.
