Asue Ighodalo, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, has called for the resolution of the party's internal issues ahead of the September 21 election.

As reported by PUNCH, Speaking at a meeting with party leaders from Akoko Edo, Ighodalo commended the leaders and stakeholders for their honest opinions and suggestions on resolving the party's internal challenges.

"I commend the party leaders for their honest analytical report and suggestions on ways to resolve the party's internal issues," Ighodalo stated.

He urged the leaders not to rest until all internal crises in the party were fully resolved, emphasizing that the PDP remained the only party capable of rescuing the nation.

Highlighting the PDP's resilience, Ighodalo stated, "The PDP remains the only party since 1999 that is still standing, while other parties have either collapsed, fragmented, or become an amalgamation of strange, odd, and unhealthy bedfellows—a contraption of complicated forced union."

Ighodalo stressed the importance of party unity and strategic planning to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC), which he referred to as Nigeria's development nemesis.

He cited verifiable data that demonstrates the PDP's superiority over other parties and announced that the party's campaign structure for the governorship election would soon be unveiled.

In addition to emphasizing the need for unity, Ighodalo called for fair representation of all interest groups, including women, youths, and even the 'Obedient' Movement, in the party's campaign structure.

This inclusive approach aims to ensure that diverse voices are heard and represented in the party's election strategies.

During the meeting, Olu Fashanu, the leader of the group, commended Governor Godwin Obaseki for selecting Marvellous Omobayo, a member from the local government area, as the new deputy governor of the state. Fashanu expressed the group's commitment to engaging with Ighodalo and working towards achieving electoral victory in the upcoming election.

He highlighted the party's commanding political structure and the support of the willing electorate in the area.

Fashanu also addressed the issue of voter intimidation orchestrated by what he referred to as the "Federal Might." He emphasized the need to proactively build and develop strong campaign teams with experienced political leadership at the ward levels in Akoko-Edo and beyond.
