Alleged employment scam: Court sends NSCDC official to prison

A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered that an official of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mrs. Tosin Comfort Olagunju, be remanded in Suleja Prison (Niger State), pending the hearing of her bail application scheduled for October 9.

Justice Binta Nyako gave the order yesterday after she was arraigned on a four-count charge, in which she was accused, among others, of obtaining N12.4million from job seekers under false pretence, with the promise that she has the capacity to secure them employment in the NSCDC.

Mrs. Olagunju, said to reside in Karu Site, Abuja, pleaded not guilty when the charge, marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/183/2024, filed in the name of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), was read to her.

The governor of Enugu State, Dr Peter Mbah, has signed four bills into law, saying they were part of his administration’s effort to make the state the number one in Ease of Doing Business and a preferred destination for investment, business, tourism, and living.

They are the Enugu State Properties Protection Law, which checks the activities of land grabbers; the Enugu State Ranch Management Law, which stems the tide of open grazing and attracts both local and foreign investment in the livestock industry; the Enugu State Sports Development Fund Law, which repositions the sports sector as a major source of economic growth; and the Enugu State Environmental and Climate Protection Law.

NBA Condemns Abduction Of Kaduna Judge, Killing Of Son

Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Kaduna State branch has condemned the abduction of the judge of the Customary Court, Sabo, Janet Galadima alongside her four children.

The chairman of the branch, Barr. Godwin Ochai, while addressing a press conference on the development yesterday in Kaduna, disclosed that the judge and her four children were kidnapped on June 23, 2024, in her residence in Mahuta New extension area of Kaduna State.

According to him, the kidnappers killed the eldest son who was about 14 years old on July 2, 2024.

Curfew in Benue community over bloody cult clash

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Zakibiam, the headquarters of Ukum Local Government Area, with effect from 3pm yesterday, over the killings in the area.

In a statement, the Technical Adviser to the Governor on Media, Publicity and Strategic Communications, Mr. Solom Iorpev, said: “The curfew shall be observed from 6pm to 6am beginning from July 4, 2024 until further notice.’’

No fewer than six persons had been reportedly killed on Monday night in Ayati settlement by a suspected armed gang in the local government area.
