The head of the Nigerian community in the United Kingdom, Benjamin Kuti, a.k.a. Oluomo of Daby, has questioned if Peter Obi's recent remarks will have an effect on the next election in Nigeria.

Mr. Kuti emphasized the community's focus on substantive and policy problems by stating that the UK, unlike Nigeria, does not engage in "stomach infrastructure" politics.

Speaking with SaharaReporters, Kuti stated that although Obi's viewpoint is noteworthy, it does not represent the views or choices of the Nigerian population in the United Kingdom.

Nigerians living in the UK are very excited about the 30 candidates of Nigerian heritage competing for parliamentary seats in various constituencies throughout the nation.

According to surveys and political pundits, the election may be a watershed moment that ushers in a new era as the Labour Party launches a strong bid to dethrone the Conservative Party, which has ruled for the last fourteen years.

As British voters gather at voting places across the country to cast their ballots in the 2024 general election, Nigerians are contesting for 30 seats out of 650 in Parliament.

Peter Obi, the Labour Party's 2023 presidential contender, has asked Nigerians living in the UK to support the Labour Party.

In response to Obi's remark, Kuti stated that while Obi is a private individual with the right to his own view, it is not as valid as the opinions of millions of people in the UK and around the world.

He stated, "Peter Obi has a right to express himself because he lived in the UK for a while and knows how the system works. He is not an elected official, so he has a right to his own opinion just like anyone else.”

He declared that Obi's viewpoint will not influence the UK's next prime minister, not even among other Nigerians.

He said, "The UK doesn't engage in stomach infrastructure politics like Nigerian politicians do. Nobody is giving anybody N2,000 to vote for a candidate."

"So, Peter Obi, urging people to vote for the Labour Party doesn't have any effect on the Nigerian community.”

He stated that in order for Nigerians living in the UK to participate in the political process, they must turn out in large numbers. They are all going to be impacted by the choice that will be made soon about the prime minister and their policy platform.
