According to Metro, Mark Lawrenson believes Erik ten Hag made a significant error by allowing Jadon Sancho to leave Manchester United earlier in the season.

Sancho, the England international, was loaned out to Borussia Dortmund in January after a falling-out with Ten Hag at the season's start.

The rift occurred when Sancho refused to apologize for his social media response to Ten Hag's criticism of his training performances.

Despite Manchester United spending over £70m to acquire Sancho from Dortmund in 2021, the 24-year-old struggled over two seasons before losing favor this term.

While Sancho's performance in the Bundesliga has been underwhelming, with only two goals in 15 appearances for Dortmund, Lawrenson believes Ten Hag's decision to let him go was a misstep.

He stated, "Erik ten Hag letting Jadon Sancho go was a big mistake given the form of some of the Manchester United players – you can’t say he wouldn’t have done better than them."

Louis Saha, a former Manchester United striker, disagrees with the notion that Sancho has proven a point with his performances in Europe.

He argued, "The only point he’s proving is that he’s a talented player and if he wasn’t stubborn, he could have been doing what he’s doing for Borussia Dortmund for Manchester United now."

Saha emphasized the importance of attitude, suggesting that Sancho's response to challenges during his time with Manchester United has been detrimental to his career.

He also criticized the ego-driven nature of such situations, stating, "It was a situation where the player, manager, and club were all losing simultaneously."

Borussia Dortmund are reportedly interested in signing Sancho permanently at the end of the season.
