Imo Community Asks Army To Probe Soldier's Death

Members of the Logara community in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State have asked the General Officer Commanding, 82 Division of the Nigeria Army, Enugu, to investigate the death of a soldier, Vitalis Eke.

The Army authority had said that the soldier, who died June 16, 2024, at Aba, in Abia State committed suicide, but his community members said that they believed that the officer was assassinated.

In a petition addressed to the GOC, 82 Division, Enugu, which was sighted by The PUNCH on Wednesday, the community alleged that there is more to the death of the soldier, who hailed from the community.

Gunmen Kill 3 IDPs In Benue

Three persons from the Agagbe Internally Displaced Persons camp have been killed by suspected armed herders while returning from their farms.

In order to feed their families in camps across the state, male adults were said to have taken to farming.

The victims met their end on Monday evening while returning from the farm.


Nigerian Police Arrest Online Influencer Sir Jarus In Lagos For Domestic Violence

The Lagos Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has confirmed that an online influencer, Suraj Oyewale, widely recognised as #SirJarus, has been arrested and is currently in police custody.

The agency on June 28, reported that an allegation of abuse involving #SirJarus, was referred to the police for investigation.

The DSVA noted that #SirJarus addressed the issue through a series of tweets, providing clarification on the incident involving him and his wife, Mrs Oyewale Ayoola.


Senate Blames Borno Suicide Bombing On Failure Of Intelligence

The Senate on Wednesday, July 3, blamed the recent suicide bombings in Gwoza town in Borno state on failure of intelligence on the part of security forces.

Senate president, Godswill Akpabio disclosed this in his contribution to the debate on a motion on the incident sponsored by the chief whip of the Senate, Mohammed Ali Ndume, during plenary.

Ndume in his lead debate identified Mandara Mountains, Sambisa Forest and the Lake Chad region as the remaining terrorists’ havens.
