In a brazen attack on Saturday night, gunmen assaulted a police checkpoint in Abia State, Nigeria, leaving two officers dead and another injured. The incident occurred along the Abayi area of Aba, a major commercial hub in the state.

According to eyewitnesses, the assailants, armed with sophisticated weapons, ambushed the checkpoint, catching the officers off guard. The attackers opened fire indiscriminately, causing chaos and panic among nearby residents and commuters. The two officers killed were identified as Inspector John Okeke and Sergeant Musa Ibrahim, while Corporal Emmanuel Eze was rushed to a nearby hospital with gunshot wounds.

Local authorities have condemned the attack, describing it as a cowardly act aimed at destabilizing the region. The Abia State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the perpetrators, vowing to bring them to justice.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has called for calm and assured the public of heightened security measures to prevent further incidents. He extended his condolences to the families of the slain officers and urged anyone with information on the attackers to come forward.
