Liverpool overcame a tough challenge from LOSC Lille to secure a 2-1 victory in their UEFA Champions League group-stage clash, sealing top spot in their group with a game to spare, according to a report by Flashscore.

The win marked their 11th consecutive home victory in the competition and continued their flawless run in the group phase.

Lille started the match with intent, with Gabriel Gudmundsson driving forward, only to fire his shot wide. Liverpool responded with Mohamed Salah testing Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier with a curling effort that was comfortably saved. Both teams played some good football but struggled to create clear-cut chances early on. Kyle Bakker’s cross was blocked after a hesitant build-up from Lille’s Rémy Cabella and Hákon Arnar Haraldsson, while Salah misjudged a through ball intended for Luis Díaz at the other end.

Liverpool gradually began to assert their dominance, and the breakthrough came in the 31st minute. Kostas Tsimikas dispossessed Jonathan David, and Curtis Jones threaded a perfect pass for Salah, who finished coolly to score his 50th European goal for Liverpool. Salah nearly doubled his tally before the break, but he couldn’t find the target after a brilliant long pass from Díaz.

The second half saw Liverpool continue to press, with Salah and Darwin Núñez both coming close to extending their lead. The game took a turn when Lille’s Aïssa Mandi was sent off for a second yellow card after cynically fouling Díaz. Despite being a man down, Lille stunned Anfield just minutes later, with Gudmundsson picking out Hákon Arnar Haraldsson, whose shot was blocked by Tsimikas. Jonathan David reacted quickly to score, pulling Lille level at 1-1.

However, Liverpool regained the lead just five minutes later, as Harvey Elliott’s strike deflected past Chevalier to make it 2-1. Although Lille goalkeeper Chevalier made some key saves to deny Salah and Federico Chiesa, the visitors couldn’t find an equalizer. A late goal from Núñez was ruled offside, and Alexis Mac Allister cleared a dangerous shot off the line to ensure Liverpool held on for the win.

In a match full of standout performances, Salah’s goal and overall contribution stood out. His first-half strike was a moment of brilliance, and he remained a constant threat throughout the match. For his crucial role in securing the win and for reaching the milestone of 50 European goals for the club, Salah was named Player of the Match.
