On Friday, 5th, July, 2024, former Mp for Kamukunji Constituency, Hon. Maina Wanjigi was laid to rest. Thousands of people especially from Mt. Kenya counties attended to give the late Wanjigi a befitting send-off. A number of notable politicians showed up too.

However, former head of state, Uhuru Kenyatta, his wife Margaret Kenyatta and Mama Ngina Kenyatta were not present. They were represented by Uhuru's younger brother Muhoho Kenyatta. While reading Uhuru's tribute about the late Wanjigi, Muhoho, stated that his brother, fourth president of the Republic of Kenya together with his wife and mother, could not make to attend the said burial ceremony because they are currently outside country.

Muhoho said, his brother, in-law and mother would have loved to attend Wanjigi's burial given that they are close family friends. Unfortunately, the burial ceremony happened while they had travelled abroad for private matters. In his tribute, Uhuru Kenyatta lauded the late Maina Wanjigi as a man who would be greatly remembered for the role he played in the country during his time.

Uhuru also used that chance to send his deepest condolences to Jimmy Wanjigi, son to the late Maina Wanjigi. He urged Jimmy and his family to remain strong during this trying moments, reminded him that he's with him and that upon his return to Kenya, him together with his family, will find time to go visit him in person. Maina Wanjigi was laid to rest at his private residence in Nyeri county.
