Dr. Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has offered a unique incentive to Anambra State APC politicians: a special award if they can unite behind a consensus gubernatorial candidate.
Speaking in a media coverage by Symfoni TV, Dr. Umar Ganduje addressed past political challenges in the state. "If we are to have a good primary and good election, a number of stakeholders must be born again, because all of them were guilty," he stated, referencing previous issues with litigation and court orders.
The APC chairman acknowledged the wealth of Anambra's APC political class while urging them to redirect their resources constructively. "I know the APC politicians are very rich and they have a lot of money, but they should not use the money to scatter the state," he said. "Let them use the money to build the state and to build APC, so that APC will succeed there."
In a bold move to encourage unity, Ganduje promised national recognition for successful consensus building: "If they can produce a candidate through consensus, I will give them an award. If Anambra will be able to unite and produce an APC candidate through consensus, I will urge Mr. President and members of the national working committee to give you a national award. They can do it if they so wish. They can do it, and so we assure you that we will arrange for a credible, free, and fair election."
