The Lagos State government on Friday, July 5, 2024, disclosed that its officials have moved to stop night trading at Ketu Bus Stop over indiscriminate dumping of refuse on the Ikorodu Road.

The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, who announced the development on his X handle, said the government found out that most of the refuse along the Ketu Bus Stop end of Ikorodu Road were dumped there by traders at night.

He was responding to the post by an X user who posted a video of the refuse dumped at the median along the section of the highway.

The X user, whose handle is @IYAADU03, posted the video and below is the screenshot of the post:

Responding to the post however, the Commissioner told the X user that he had instructed officials of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) to clear the stretch of the road.

He also added that they have also been told to stop the night trading at the bus stop which he said is the main cause of indiscriminate dumping of refuse.

He wrote: "Following your notice on the state of Ketu Bus Stop this morning, I have instructed LAWMA to clear the stretch and they are also moving in to stop the night trading which is the main cause of this indiscriminate refuse dumping.

"More actions will be taken on that axis. Thank you."

Many residents of the state are in the habit of dumping refuse along the median of highways.
