In a recent video broadcast by Channels TV, Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara addressed remarks made by his predecessor, former Governor Nyesom Wike, about his financial background and family history. This exchange highlights the evolving dynamics between these two political figures.

Governor Fubara revealed that he was financially comfortable before taking office, underscoring his independence and the significant role his family played in his financial stability. This disclosure came in response to Wike’s surprise upon discovering Fubara's affluent background and his father's managerial position at Shell.

In a previous statement, Wike had expressed astonishment at learning about Fubara’s wealthy upbringing. He remarked, "I never knew you were rich and that your father was a managing director of Shell before and now you are paying school fees of the lawmakers' children." Wike's comments were in reaction to Fubara’s claims of supporting the children of certain embattled lawmakers loyal to Martin Amaewhule by covering their school fees and house rents.

Responding to these comments, Fubara clarified that his father was an officer at Shell as early as 2005, and he himself had held a managerial position at Shell before transitioning to public service. He highlighted that he was never in a position of financial need and had ample resources to support himself and assist others. Fubara stated, "I know somebody said he didn't know my father was a Shell officer. My father was already a Shell officer from 2005 when I started working in finance. So if he says he didn't know my father was a Shell officer, yes my father was a Shell officer. Before I started working here, I was even a Shell manager, so I wasn't a beggar. I had enough that I could eat and extend to people."

Through his response, Fubara emphasized his financial independence, countering Wike’s narrative and suggesting that his support for lawmakers was driven by a genuine desire to help rather than financial necessity. This incident sheds light on the personal and political dynamics between Fubara and Wike, adding another layer to their complex relationship.
