In a noteworthy development reported by Vanguard, Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, has lauded the vote of confidence passed on the acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Iliya Damagum, viewing it as a triumph for the party. Moro's sentiments were expressed during an interview with reporters on Saturday, where he stressed the crucial nature of Damagum's continued leadership for the party's advancement and cohesion.

Responding to speculations circulating in the public sphere, particularly regarding Damagum's perceived survival as a victory for the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and a setback for the 2023 PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, Moro dismissed such interpretations. He underscored the complexities within the PDP, urging against reducing the party's dynamics to individual personalities.

Moro underscored the importance of collective decision-making within the PDP, especially amidst the prevailing challenges faced by Nigerians under the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration. He emphasized the necessity for strategic planning to offer a viable alternative for Nigerians amidst the current socio-political climate.

Looking ahead to the forthcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting slated for August 15, Moro elucidated on the party's constitutional provisions for succession planning. Citing Vanguard's coverage, Moro referenced Section 35 (3C) of the party's constitution, explaining that NEC would adhere to established procedures to fill vacant positions, including that of the National Chairman.

Optimism resonated in Moro's tone as he reflected on the party's future, particularly in light of recent developments such as Senator Iyorchia Ayu's withdrawal of his court case. He emphasized the paramount importance of unity and restraint among party members and stakeholders to forestall further polarization.
