According to Punch Newspaper, a tragic incident occurred in the Railway axis of Elekahia, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, resulting in the death of an elderly man named Augustine. As stated by eyewitnesses, Augustine was struck on the head with a stone by a female neighbor during a quarrel.
This dispute allegedly began when the woman accused Augustine of defecating behind the compound, which he denied. The argument escalated, and the woman reportedly picked up a stone and hit Augustine on the head.
A neighbor, who witnessed the incident, recounted the events leading up to the fatal attack. "The woman saw faeces behind the house and accused the man, who was sitting in front of his house, of being responsible. They started quarreling, and the man said he had just returned from work and couldn't have done such a thing, especially with many children in the compound."
However, the witness further stated that the woman threw sand at Augustine, and they began fighting. "She then picked up a stone and struck him on the head. We took him to two hospitals, but they refused to attend to him. At the third hospital, he was confirmed dead."
Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the incident, and the spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, stated that the woman has been arrested. "Yes, I can confirm the incident. The woman has been arrested, and the matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department."
During interrogation, the suspect denied hitting Augustine with a stone, claiming that he had hit her on the nose, and his children were fighting her, throwing stones. Investigation is ongoing, and the woman may face charges upon its conclusion.
