At the height of his career as a police officer, George Kinoti was a very powerful man who was very close to power for ege five years that he worked as the director of the Criminal Investigations Directorate.

Kinoti, who was at the helm of DCI for four years since his appointment in 2018 by former President Uhuru Kenyatta, resigned in September 2022, leaving the position up for grabs.

In the race to fill the vacant position, the National Police Service kicked off the process to replace Kinoti by shortlisting ten candidates for the lucrative job.

Nyale, one of the top detectives in the country, was considered as one of the front runners for the vacant position.

Having made a name for himself when he commanded the now defunct Flying Squad, Nyale was moved to the head another specialized wings of the DCI, Anti-Terror Police Unit.

After exiting ATPU, he ended up at Vigilance House as the Principal Assistant to the outgoing Inspector General of Police, Hillary Mutyambai.

With a career in the police service spanning over two decades, Nyale could be a heartbeat away from assuming the role of the country's top detective.

But in the end, the then head of the Internal Affairs Unit of the Kenya Police Service, Mohammed Amin was appointed by President William Ruto as Kinoti's successor.

As for Kinoti, almost two years later, no one knows what became of him even as he maintains loud silence. Was he redeployed to the Public Service? Or did he peacefully and quietly retire after over three decades as a cop?
