In an interview with Arise News, Nigerian Lawyer and Politician, Kenneth Okonkwo has said that Peter Obi is a due process man, who loves to allow things play out according to the law, he said Peter Obi as a human being, hates to dictate to people because we are in the democracy era.

“Peter Obi is a due process man, he allows things to play out according to law, as a human being he hates the idea of dictating to people, he believes we are in democracy. He believes that he is a presidential candidate and the leaders in the party ought to do what is right and then the system should have a way to correct itself.”

Speaking further he emphasized that 2027 is for Peter Obi and not the Labor party, therefore anyone who brings it to the table will enjoy a flawless victory.

“2027 is about Peter Obi, not about the labor party. Anybody who is bringing Peter Obi on the table is bringing the new Nigeria, is bringing absolute victory into whatever is done.”

He is not inclined to exert control over others. In the Nigerian context, this approach may have advantages and disadvantages. However, it signifies his commitment to upholding due process and the rule of law.

Regarding the current situation within the labor party, he is allowing the internal mechanisms to function independently; he is not imposing his will on the party. This does not imply that regular discussions are not ongoing.

Looking ahead to 2027, I have emphasized previously that democracy thrives on discussions and concessions. When challenging an existing authority, every group becomes relevant, and there is potential for alliances or even a restructuring of the Labor party. The Labor party will either overcome its current challenges or face decline.
