According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United have engaged in promising discussions with Paris Saint-Germain regarding the potential acquisition of midfielder Manuel Ugarte, reports Traspasos.

The Red Devils have pinpointed the Uruguayan international as their primary midfield target, and the 23-year-old has reportedly signaled his approval for a transfer.

Sources indicate that momentum is building towards Ugarte's move to United, with talks between the clubs described as positive. It is anticipated that United will submit their initial offer for the holding midfielder in the coming hours.

United's pursuit of Ugarte dates back to last summer, although no formal approach was made at the time. Instead, he opted to join PSG from Sporting, rejecting interest from Chelsea.

While Ugarte enjoyed a strong start at PSG, his playing time diminished towards the end of the season, partly due to the emergence of Warren Zaire-Emery. He frequently found himself as an unused substitute, with manager Luis Enrique favoring other midfield combinations.

This reduced role is reportedly a significant factor in Ugarte's willingness to seek a move away. At Old Trafford, he would potentially be a regular starter, replacing Casemiro in the team.

Ugarte showcased his defensive prowess last season, averaging an impressive 3.9 tackles, 6.4 duels won per game, and 7.2 recoveries. His passing accuracy in Ligue 1 stood at an impressive 91%, highlighting his proficiency in distribution.

Compared to Casemiro, whose passing accuracy dipped to 83% last season, Ugarte's ability to retain possession and distribute the ball effectively sets him apart.

Described as 'tireless' by PSG's official website, Ugarte is valued at £38 million by Transfermarkt, aligning closely with what United might propose for his acquisition.
