It was divine providence that saved passengers inside a commercial bus as well as traffic wardens from untimely death as the driver of the bus lost control in Lagos on Saturday morning due to brake failure, destroying a traffic light and a cubicle used by the traffic wardens.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), which announced the accident on its X handle, said it occurred around 8:20 a.m. at the Odo Eran intersection in the Agege area of the state.

According to LASTMA, the driver of the fully-loaded yellow Mazda bus suddenly found out that the brake of the vehicle had failed and due to his inability to control it, he rammed into both the traffic light as well as the cubicle beside it.

As a result of the impact of the accident, the traffic light was uprooted while the cubicle went down shortly after the traffic wardens posted there for morning duty jumped out of it when they saw the bus approaching.

Though LASTMA said there was no casualty, some of the passengers were seen thanking God while others sat beside the road, lamenting over the situation.

According to LASTMA, men of the Nigeria Police Force had been contacted while efforts were being made by LASTMA officials to remove the vehicle and control the traffic situation along the stretch of the road.

Many residents of the state have always expressed worries over the rate at which commercial buses suffer brake failure while in motion which had led to casualties on the roads in some cases.
