Mumias East member of parliament hon Peter Salasya displayed his June payslip with KShs 2,300 net salary for June with "Navumilia" despite earnings Kshs 1.2 million shillings per month. This caused mixed reactions among Kenyans including Senator Okiya Omtata who said that that was a self inflicted challanges.
Well, here the breakdown of Peter Salasya's June salary.
According to the payslip he shared, the MP earns a gross salary of Kshs 1.2 million per month, but his net pay after all deductions is a paltry Kshs 2,364. A huge chunk of the deductions were taken as follows
1.Individual income tax Kshs 360,500 shillings.
2.Mortgage, Kshs 542,000 shillings.
3.NHIF, Kshs 1,700 shillings.
4.Staff pension fund, Kshs, 53,676 shillings.
5.Rationa and messing Kshs 3,900 shillings.
6.Bucoso deposits, Kshs, 10,000 shillings.
7.Packso shares, Kshs 10,000 shillings.
8.Car loan Kshs, 89,150 shillings.
9.KYPA Kshs 5,000 shillings.
Total deductions Kshs 1,074,327 shillings.

The MP appeared to suggest that such meagre salaries could be what pushed his colleagues in the National Assembly to vote for the condemned Finance Bill 2024, with the supposed hope or promise of handouts from the government to bolster their pay.
