The Presidential Taskforce against economic sabotage and multiple taxation has launched a operation to demolish illegal roadblocks on federal highways in Taraba State, aimed at putting an end to multiple taxation and intimidation of highway commuters and haulage drivers. Led by Mafindi Danburam, the state team has begun its mission in the northern senatorial district and will expand to other zones, ensuring that federal highways are free from illegal tax collectors.
The taskforce's efforts come in response to complaints about notorious multiple taxation on Taraba's federal highways, which has led some commuters to avoid these routes. With the support of security agencies, the taskforce is determined to monitor and prevent illegal taxation of heavy-duty vehicles conveying goods, emphasizing that taxes are only permissible at loading and offloading points. Collaborating with the state government and internal revenue service, the taskforce warns that anyone reinstating illegal roadblocks will face prosecution, promoting a smoother and safer transportation experience in Taraba State.
