In a recent statement, Tonye Princewill, a notable politician, film producer, and philanthropist, the Labour Party candidate for Governor of Rivers State in 2015 and the Action Congress candidate in 2007, has shared his views on some policies of the current administration, concluding that President Tinubu might need to rethink his strategies if he wants a second term, as reported by Vanguard.

On July 12, 2022, Princewill left the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in protest over the party's decision to field a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket.

Princewill, an ally of former Transportation Minister Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, was an influential member of the APC in Rivers State.

Reflecting on his political journey, Princewill stated that Tinubu was one of his mentors.

Despite this mentorship, Princewill did not support Tinubu's presidential bid, primarily due to the APC's Muslim-Muslim ticket.

"Tinubu was one of my mentors. He and Atiku took me under their wings when I first entered politics. As a novice back then, he blessed my union with Amaechi to recover Rivers state and without him, my progress in politics would have been far more limited. But I didn’t support his presidential bid, primarily on account of his Muslim-Muslim ticket, neither did I support Atiku nor Obi, for a variety of reasons. The best thing that happened to Tinubu was the emergence of Peter Obi," he said.
