According to Nigerian Tribune, Jimoh Ibrahim, the senator representing Ondo South, recently revealed that he possesses a software application on his phone capable of detecting the number of firearms in his vicinity, regardless of his location. This disclosure was made during a senate session on Wednesday, while he was contributing to a motion put forward by Ali Ndume, the senator representing Borno South.
The session was centered around Ndume's motion, which highlighted the recent suicide bombings in Gwoza, a local government area within his senatorial district. The discussion aimed to address the increasing concerns about security and the rising threat of terrorism in the region. Ndume emphasized the urgent need for effective measures to combat these violent acts and protect citizens.
During his contribution, Ibrahim provided a striking insight into the technological tools at his disposal for security purposes. He stated that he was aware of the number of firearms in his immediate surroundings as he spoke, estimating them to be around 277. This estimation, he explained, was due to the national assembly's proximity to the Three Arms Zone, where an armory is stationed at Aso Rock. His remarks underscored the importance of leveraging technology for enhanced security and intelligence gathering.
Ibrahim further suggested that the army should equip their personnel with similar devices on their phones to locate criminals effectively. He emphasized the potential benefits of such technology in improving the nation's security framework. By regularly monitoring his phone, he asserted his awareness of the firearms nearby, highlighting a proactive approach to personal and public safety within high-security areas.
“For intelligence purposes, the army should have devices on their phones to locate these criminals,” he suggested. “As I sit here, I regularly check my phone and know the number of guns nearby. There are over 277 guns.”
