The National Leader of the Pan-Niger Delta Forum, Chief Edwin Clark, has shared his thoughts on the lingering crisis between the Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.

Speaking during an interview with Punch on Sunday, Chief Clark said that Wike and Fubara were once close, and that it was the reason Wike appointed Fubara as the accountant general of Rivers state.

He said that their relationship turned sour after Fubara became governor, because Wike wanted to continue exerting control over the government.

He added that several times, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had tried to arrest Wike, but they couldn't do so because he (Wike) was enjoying immunity as governor.

He said that the anti-graft commission decided to arrest the accountant general and some other people, but Wike protected them and prevented the EFCC from going ahead with the case.

Speaking further, the elder statesman said now that Wike is no longer the governor, he is no more protected by immunity, which means, he can be arrested anytime.

He said, "But now, Wike no longer enjoys immunity. So, he could be arrested any day. But if he allows Fubara's government to continue, as far as he is concerned, he doesn't know what will follow.

"He wants to hold Fubara in his hand. He wants to know all those he appointed.

"All the commissioners that served him (Wike) were retained because Wike wanted them there. Even his accountant general went back to his son's cabinet while he was serving as a minister. No single change. Now, he cannot travel there, except maybe to Lagos."
