Tinubu, Kogi mourn ex-CDS Ogohi

Admiral Ibrahim Ogohi (Rtd), former Chief of Defence Staff, passed away on June 30, 2024, at the age of 75. President Bola Tinubu, the military, and Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo have expressed their condolences, acknowledging his significant contributions to Nigeria's unity and development.

Admiral Ogohi served as Defence Chief from 1999 to 2003, making him the first Chief of Defence Staff from the Nigerian Navy. His distinguished 33-year military career was marked by numerous achievements, including his appointment as Commanding Officer of various Nigerian Navy Ships and his role as Chief of Policy and Plans at the Naval Headquarters.

Following his retirement, Admiral Ogohi continued to provide his expertise to the Armed Forces of Nigeria, solidifying his legacy as a dedicated military officer and statesman.

His passing has been met with an outpouring of tributes, with President Tinubu stating that "his services to the nation will always be remembered." Governor Ododo described him as "an illustrious son of Kogi State" and "one of Nigeria's finest military officers" who contributed immensely to keeping Nigeria united.

The military, in a statement by the Director of Defence Information, Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau, announced his death with "deep sorrow." Admiral Ogohi's commitment to Nigeria's development and his contributions to the military will be remembered and honored. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations of military officers and Nigerians alike.
