West Ham United have officially confirmed that teenage Nigerian midfielder, Tyron Akpata, has signed his first professional contract with the club, according to All Nigeria Soccer. The 17-year-old midfielder has committed his future to the English Premier League side, putting pen to paper on a two-year contract that will keep him at the club until June 30, 2026.

Akpata, who joined the Hammers at U15 level, has been a standout player for the club's U18 team, appearing in 39 matches and scoring four goals with four assists. He was a key member of the team that won the U18 Premier League South and FA Youth Cup in 2022-2023.

The talented teenager has been described as a central midfielder who brings energy and commitment to his role. His style of play suits Spanish teams, and with West Ham appointing a Spaniard, Julen Lopetegui, as their new head coach, Akpata may have a chance to make his first-team debut in the forthcoming season.

Speaking to the club's official website, Akpata expressed his excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to start his professional career at West Ham United. "It's a great feeling to sign this contract, and I'm so chuffed to start a new chapter at West Ham United as a professional footballer," he said. "I've been here for a few years now, which does make it extra special. I've worked under some different coaches, who have all helped me massively with my development, and I hope I can continue growing in the future."

Akpata's signing is a testament to West Ham's commitment to developing young talent, and the club will be hoping to see him make an impact in the years to come. With his sights set on making his debut for Nigeria's U20 national team, the Flying Eagles, Akpata is certainly one to watch for the future.
