NNPC Declares State Of Emergency On Crude Oil Production

Mele Kyari, group chief executive officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, has declared a state of emergency on crude oil production.

Kyari spoke on Tuesday in a keynote address at the opening ceremony of the 23rd edition of the Nigeria Oil and Gas Conference and Exhibition (NOG Energy Week) in Abuja.

He said war has been declared on the challenges affecting Nigeria’s crude oil production.

Senate Replies Lukman

The Senate has described the submission by a former national vice chairman (North-West) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Salihu Mohammed Lukman, as “meretricious”.

Lukman, a former member of the APC National Working Committee (NWC), in a statement, on Tuesday, said the 10th National Assembly led by the Senate President Godswill Akpabio and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajuddeen Abbas, has failed Nigerians.

But reacting to the claim in an exclusive chat with Daily Trust, the Chairman Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Yemi Adaramodu (APC, Ekiti South), said Lukman has lost touch of developments at the National Assembly.


Gunmen Abduct Entrepreneur In Akwaibom

Police in Akwa Ibom State have confirmed the abduction of an entrepreneur, Benjamin Unwuka, in Eket Local Government Area of the state.

Timfon John, the police spokesperson in Akwa Ibom, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Eket.

Ms John, an assistant superintendent of police, said that the victim was abducted on Sunday night.


SSANU, Begin Strike Thursday Over Unpaid Four-month Salary Arrears

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) have threatened to ground activities on campuses nationwide from Thursday except the federal government pays the withheld salary arrears of their members.

SSANU said this in a communique at the end of its 48 regular National Executive Council meeting at the University of Benin and signed by its President, Comrade Mohammed Ibrahim.

On June 20, 2024, the university workers, through a letter addressed to the Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, gave the government a two-week ultimatum to pay the salary arrears.
