Abuja Appeal Court has ruled in favor of Martins Amaewhule and 26 Assembly members, aligning with former governor Nyesom Wike's camp. The court's judgment has sparked excitement among Wike's supporters, while Governor Siminalayi Fubara's backers are considering defecting from the People's Democratic Party (PDP).

The Rivers State High Court had earlier dismissed Amaewhule's defection lawsuit for lack of jurisdiction. However, the Appeal Court's ruling has reignited hopes for Wike's camp. Some PDP members in the House of Representatives had called for the resignation of acting National Chairman Umar Damagum in April, accusing him of supporting Wike and being biased towards the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Chief Anabs Sara-Igbe, a PANDEF leader and former security consultant to the Rivers State government, has advised patience, suggesting that Governor Fubara is free to leave the PDP if he feels uncomfortable. "We should just wait and see what happens; maybe in 2027," Sara-Igbe said.

As reported by Vanguard, the ongoing crisis has raised concerns about the PDP's leadership and its ability to manage internal conflicts. As the situation unfolds, political observers are watching closely to see how the party will navigate this challenging period.

"This is starting to make more sense to me. That, however, is premature. The governor is free to depart from his party if he feels uneasy about it. The current PDP leadership is clearly leaning in a different direction," Sara-Igbe added.
