Tragedy struck the streets of Aba, Abia State, as unknown gunmen launched a deadly attack on a police checkpoint, killing two officers and injuring another.

The incident occurred at the Opobo Junction along the Ikot Ekpene Road in the Ogbor Hill area of the city, according to DAILY POST reports.

Eyewitnesses reported that the attack sent shockwaves through the bustling commercial hub, as street traders, motorists, and shop owners frantically fled the scene.

"It was pandemonium," said Mary Ekpo, a vegetable seller. "We all ran for our lives, leaving our goods scattered on the road."

The attack comes barely a month after a similar incident at the Obikabia Junction, where yet-to-be-identified gunmen targeted a military checkpoint, killing five soldiers and burning their patrol vehicles.

Abia State Police spokesperson, Maureen Chinaka, was yet to respond to inquiries regarding the latest incident at the time of reporting.

However, several patrol teams were dispatched to the area in the immediate aftermath of the attack.
