Court Releases Man After 15 Years In Prison Without Trial

An Ikeja High Court on Monday ordered the release of a man, Kazeen Adeshina, after spending 15 years in a correctional facility without charge or trial.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Justice Oyindamola Ogala, while ruling in a fundamental rights enforcement suit No. D/16997MFHR/24 filed by Adeshina’s counsel, Mr Ben Okeke, held that detaining Adeshina in prison without charge or trial was unjustifiable.

Ogala, in her ruling, said the arrest and continued detention of Adeshina in the custody of the Medium Correctional Centre, Kirikiri, Lagos, without a trial, was wrong, illegal and unjustifiable.

Court Dismisses Nnamdi Kanu's N1bn Suit Against FG

A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a suit by the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB Nnamdi Kanu, seeking N1billion damages for alleged right violation.

Delivering judgment on Monday, Justice James Omotosho held that Kanu failed to provide credible evidence to sustain his claims that his interactions with his lawyers were interfered with.

The court also held that Kanu failed to prove that he was denied unhindered access to his lawyers and that DSS officials eavesdropped on his conversations with his lawyers, which constituted a breach of his right to fair hearing.


Police Kill 2 Bandits In Benue

Policemen in Benue, on Sunday, killed two suspected bandits in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement on Monday, the state Police Command Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene, said men of Operation Zenda invaded the hideout of the bandits located at Tse Uza, Mbatyula Council Ward in Katsina-Ala LGA.

She said, “Upon arrival at the camp, bandits engaged the police in a gun duel to resist invasion into their camp but were overpowered by the superior firepower of the police team.


FCT Residents Unimpressed With Wike's Performance- Kingibe

A serving Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory under the platform of the Labour Party, Ireti Kingibe has said that the performance of the FCT minister Nyesom Wike has not impressed the residents.

The Senator who said this while appearing on Arise News TV on Sunday, added that all infrastructural projects inaugurated by Wike so far would not benefit the masses.

She accused the minister of not being interested in solving critical socio-economic issues affecting the people of FCT.
