The Problem We Had With the Last Regime Was With One Person; He Created the Problems—ASUU President

The President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has attributed the problems faced during the previous regime to the actions of former Minister of Labour, Dr. Chris Ngige. In an interview with Channels Television, the ASUU President stated that Ngige hijacked the negotiation process, creating all the problems.

He expressed optimism about the new government but emphasised that actions, not words, will determine their assessment of the current administration. The ASUU President highlighted the need for tangible progress, saying, "Until we start seeing action, that's when we can appropriately access such a person."

According to him, "The problem we had with the last regime was with one person. One person created all the problems, the then Minister of Labour, Dr. Chris Ngige, who, while we were still discussing with our minister of education, went and hijacked the process and did all sorts of things, and that's why we got there, but for this one, we met with him yesterday. Like I said, we had a good discussion, but for us in ASUU, until we start seeing action, that's when we can appropriately access such a person, but we are not seeing action."
