Azimio la Umoja, led by former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, issued an ultimatum to President William Ruto to sign the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Amendment Bill, 2024 before the day ended. This Bill is one of the key issues from the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report that the leaders believe should be prioritized.

Speaking in Meru County, Kalonzo criticized the delay in implementing NADCO’s proposals, which were intended to improve the country but have been languishing in the National Assembly. He emphasized the importance of the IEBC Amendment Bill, stating that President Ruto had promised to sign it into law.

Kalonzo highlighted the political significance of July 7, known as Sabasaba Day, a day when Kenyans historically rallied for multi-party democracy. He stressed that the urgency to establish a new IEBC could not be overstated, insisting that the signing of the Bill should not be delayed any further. The midnight ultimatum underscores the leaders' determination for swift action.
