A man on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, wrote the Nigeria Police Force through the Complaint Response Unit (CRU), saying his aunt was arrested inside her shop when policemen from the Lagos State Police Command carried out a raid after a suspected cultist was killed in the area.

The Nigeria Police Force CRU, in a swift response on its X handle, urged him to provide more details about the incident in order to investigate the matter.

The man, whose X handle is @arriepotter9090, disclosed that policemen from the Iju Divisional Headquarters of the command, popularly known as Red House, raided the place where a suspected cultist was killed and picked up some people, including his aunt, who was selling items inside her shop.

He added that the woman was detained for three days at the station while the officers there allegedly asked for the sum of N70,000 in order to regain her freedom.

According to him, she was allowed to leave after her family members were able to raise the money, adding that others who could not raise money to bail themselves were still in detention.

He therefore urged the Nigeria Police to look into the matter so that his sister will get justice and also get back the money collected, which he described as "extortion."

The CRU responded to the posts and below is the screenshot of its response:

Some citizens have complained about the alleged extortions that take place at some police stations across the country.
