On 29th June, 2024 the member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly representing Zaria constituency, Honorable Mahmud Lawal, while reacting to the filed suit by the former Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El Rufai against the Kaduna House of Assembly over their report that he siphoned four hundred and thirty-two billion naira, revealed that the State had never experienced such blatant misuse of public funds as recorded under the administration of former Governor of the State, Nasir El-Rufai because the State monies were misappropriated under the guise of project implementation.
According to the Daily Post, the member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly representing Zaria constituency, Honorable Mahmud Lawal said "Does he (El-Rufai) believe that by resorting to legal action, he can obstruct the legislature from carrying out its constitutional duties? Kaduna State had never experienced such blatant misuse of public funds as recorded under El-Rufai’s tenure, where funds were misappropriated under the guise of project implementation. For instance, let me illustrate what occurred at Kofar Doka in Zaria, my constituency. Billions of Naira were purportedly allocated for road projects, but tragically, the only visible activity was bulldozers demolishing people’s homes, rendering them homeless. What happened to the project? Where is the money?"
If you could recall, some days ago the former Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai filed a suit at the Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna against the Kaduna State House of Assembly over their report that during his eight years administration as the Governor of the State that he siphoned four hundred and thirty billion naira leaving the State with huge debt liabilities.
