Six Killed, Three Injured in Ogun Multiple Crashes 21st January 2025.
Tragedy struck in Ogun State on Tuesday when six people lost their lives, and three others sustained serious injuries in multiple crashes along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The accidents, which occurred near the Kara Bridge area in the early hours, involved three vehicles: a fully loaded trailer, a commercial bus, and a private car. Witnesses reported that reckless driving and a brake failure on the trailer led to the collisions, which caused a massive pileup and left debris scattered across the road.
The Ogun State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ahmed Umar, confirmed the fatalities and injuries. He stated that emergency responders, including FRSC officials and the police, promptly arrived at the scene to manage traffic and assist victims.
"The six fatalities were adults, while the injured have been rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent medical care. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the crashes," Umar said.
The incident caused significant traffic gridlock on the busy expressway, disrupting the morning commute. Motorists were advised to exercise patience and use alternative routes while cleanup operations continued.
Authorities have reiterated the need for drivers to adhere to road safety regulations, including routine vehicle maintenance, to prevent such avoidable tragedies.
The state government has extended its condolences to the families of the deceased and urged all road users to prioritize safety to reduce the alarming rate of accidents.
