Yahaya Bello: Lawyers Urge EFCC To Follow Due Process, Avoid Media Trial

A group of legal experts known as the Guardians of Democracy and Rule of Law urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday to adhere to proper legal protocols in its pursuit of charges against the former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.


Bello faces a 19-count indictment related to allegations of involvement in money laundering, breach of trust, and misappropriation of funds amounting to approximately N80.2 billion.


Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja is set to rule on May 10 regarding Bello's challenge to an arrest warrant issued by the EFCC.

Buhari Mourns Politician, Sidi Ali

Former President Muhammadu Buhari expressed his condolences on Friday following the passing of journalist, author, and politician, Sidi Hamid Ali.

In a statement released by his media adviser, Malam Garba Shehu, Buhari praised Ali as a talented writer whose works earned his admiration.

He highlighted Ali's notable achievement in documenting his campaign against corruption and indiscipline during his tenure as Military Head of State in an acclaimed book.

The former President also acknowledged Ali's subsequent publication detailing his accomplishments as an elected civilian president.

85 Terrorists Killed as Boko Haram, ISWAP Clash in Borno

Boko Haram and the Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) engaged in a skirmish in Borno State, resulting in the deaths of at least 85 militants. The clashes occurred between April 24 and 25, with ISWAP making significant gains and driving Boko Haram militants from several previously occupied islands. The clashes involved strategic maneuvers and assaults by ISWAP against Boko Haram positions, resulting in substantial casualties on both sides.


N1.29tn Lost to Oil Theft Annually — Speaker

During the inauguration of the New Headquarters Naval Training Command, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, revealed that Nigeria loses an estimated 300,000 barrels of crude oil daily due to theft and sabotage, resulting in an annual revenue loss of approximately N1.29 trillion. He stressed the vital role of the Nigerian Navy in safeguarding the nation's maritime interests and combating criminal activities in its territorial waters. Governor Siminalayi Fubara reiterated the importance of the Navy's role in enhancing maritime security and driving economic growth. Additionally, the governor pledged a donation of N350 million to support infrastructure development and operations at the training command.
