According to the report from The Sun, Former deputy governor of Imo State, Gerald Irona, has followed in the footsteps of his former boss, Emeka Ihedioha, by resigning from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Ihedioha's unexpected resignation on Tuesday highlighted the party's perceived failure to provide effective opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) among other reasons.

Irona, who served as Ihedioha's deputy, has cited dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs within the PDP as his reason for leaving, signaling a growing discontent within the party's ranks. In his resignation letter addressed to the ward chairman of Oguta council area, Irona expressed regret over the PDP's departure from the core principles established by its founding members.

Accompanying Irona in his decision to defect are prominent figures within the party, including former Speaker of the State Assembly, Lawman Duruji, and the State organizing secretary, Law Biaduo. The wave of defections also includes Paschal Uzor, vice-chairman of Owerri zone, and veteran Nollywood actor Charles Awurum, reflecting a notable shift in the political landscape of Imo State.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, the departure of key figures from the PDP signifies a significant realignment of political allegiances within the state. Irona's decision, along with that of other prominent members, underscores the growing challenges and internal divisions facing the PDP as it navigates a complex political environment.
