According to Punch, Chike Obidigbo, an industrialist and President of Osisioma Foundation, has clarified that President Bola Tinubu is not responsible for Nnamdi Kanu's detention. Obidigbo emphasized that Kanu's situation is a security issue, not a political one.
Obidigbo criticized some Igbo politicians for politicizing Kanu's release, stating that their actions are worsening the situation. He advised South East politicians against compounding Kanu's travails and emphasized the need for a diplomatic approach to achieve a political solution.
Obidigbo noted that Kanu's incarceration requires the involvement of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and that the President may not have absolute power to release Kanu. He also highlighted Britain's role in Kanu's arrest and rendition to Nigeria, citing economic interests.
Obidigbo warned that if Kanu is released on political grounds without a referendum, the struggle may continue. He advocated for genuine efforts to free Kanu through diplomatic channels, involving powerful nations like China, Russia, and the USA.
