Former lawmaker, Daniel Bwala, says President Bola Tinubu can govern the country from anywhere in the world.

Bwala said this is the case whether the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, is also in Nigeria or not.

DAILY POST reports that the visit by Shettima to the United States of America, for the US-Africa Business Summit, has created leadership vacuum at the nation’s seat of power as Tinubu is yet to arrive Nigeria, six days after attending the Special World Economic Forum WEF meeting

Bwala’s statement is coming shortly after former Vice President Atiku Abubakar described as unusual the absence of Tinubu and Shettima from the country at the same time.

Atiku said it was worrisome especially now that the nation is faced with daunting challenges.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate in a post on his X handle claimed one might be right to assume that the country is on autopilot.

However, Bwala disagreed with Atiku, saying that Aso Vila is not a block industry, while Tinubu is not a bricklayer.

He said: “The President @officialABAT is in charge of the country and can govern from anywhere in the world whether the Vice President is also in Nigeria or not. Aso Vila is not a block industry and the President is not a bricklayer. Read Section 5 of the Constitution.

The former president stated this during a chat with the daughter of the Chief Executive Officer, Nnenna Onyema, during his trip in a now-viral video.

In the video shared by the airline in a post on its official X handle on Monday, Obasanjo was seen shaking and complimenting Nnenna on the service he enjoyed.

The airline, however, expressed gratitude to the former president for his patronage.

Air Peace wrote, “It was great having the former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, on our Lagos-London and London-Lagos flights recently. He said, “I went, it was pleasant. I came back, it was even more pleasant.’ Thank you for flying with us, Your Excellency.”

Why UK stopped students from bringing families, by envoy

Only international students studying for their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) can go with dependants to the United Kingdom, British High Commissioner Dr. Richard Montgomery, stated this yesterday.

He spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, while giving reasons for the stoppage of foreign students from bringing their families into Britain.

He said the educational system policy changed earlier this year for international students in higher education not to bring dependants into the UK was to curb the increase of foreign student bringing in dependants.

The envoy explained that the huge surge in dependants, was putting an unsustainable pressure on many universities, adding that, it was the reason these changes were introduced.

Montgomery added that before his posting as High Commissioner to Nigeria, he had spoken to some of these universities on the policy change, which had been in the pipeline for some time.

He noted that the universities Chancellors had complained of the huge student populations’ highlighting that accommodation was a huge challenge, access to medical services under the National Health Service and access to school if they brought in dependants.

According to him, the restrictions do not apply to all categories, adding that those doing a long term research degree, like a PhD, or doctorate were not affected.

Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, stands as a beacon of pragmatic economic stewardship, weaving together innovative strategies to propel economic growth. From championing social consumer credit programmes to spearheading the modernisation of revenue collection systems, his leadership is defined by a rare blend of foresight and practicality.

Edun’s initiatives reflect a nuanced understanding of both local imperatives and global dynamics, ensuring that fiscal policies resonate with Nigeria’s diverse needs while aligning with international trends. Whether addressing revenue challenges, navigating foreign exchange constraints, or driving trade facilitation initiatives, his interventions prioritise efficiency, transparency and unwavering accountability. Edun’s vision extends beyond mere management; it encompasses transformation, laying the groundwork for a resilient and dynamic economy that empowers all citizens. Through his steadfast commitment to progress, he not only navigates economic complexities but also shapes them, leaving an indelible mark on Nigeria’s trajectory towards prosperity.

The withdrawal of fuel subsidy under the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration marks a significant policy shift aimed at bolstering fiscal sustainability and prioritising efficient resource allocation. Edun has provided insights into the rationale behind this decision and its implications for government finances and service delivery. His remarks underscore the substantial financial burden that fuel subsidy imposes on the government, estimated at £1.6 billion monthly at its peak. By removing this subsidy, the government stands to save significant resources, redirecting them towards addressing pressing needs and promoting economic development.
