Ogoni leaders stopped me from completing East-West Road-Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has alleged leaders from the Ogoni ethnic nationality stopped him from completing the East-West Road when he served as the Minister of the Niger Delta Affairs under former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Akpabio, who insisted that the leaders should be blamed for the current deplorable condition of the road, said his ministry secured a budget provision to begin work on the project when the leaders stalled it.

He said the leaders led a delegation to the then President and pleaded with him to transfer the East-West Road from his ministry to the Ministry of Works, whose Minister was Babatunde Fashola.

BENIN CITY – THE controversies trailing the September 21 governorship election in Edo state continued yesterday as the All Progressives Congress, APC, called for the resignation of the running mate to the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Osarodion Ogie saying that he cannot continue to earn salaries and emoluments from the state while campaigning.

But the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare described the APC as being ignorant of the electoral act which permits Ogie to be in government till one month before the election.

A statement by the Acting State Chairman of the APC, Emperor Jarrett Tenebe said the action of Ogie to remain in office “is patently unacceptable and an affront to the good people of Edo State.

Tinubu appoints Abubakar Dantsoho MD of NPA

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr Abubakar Dantsoho as the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA.

The president also approved the appointment of Senator Adedayo Adeyeye as chairman of the Board of the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA.

Dantsoho holds a doctorate in Maritime Technology from Liverpool John Moores University, United Kingdom, and a master’s degree in International Transport from Cardiff University of Wales, United Kingdom.

OPL 245: Niger Delta Group Demands Probe Of Mohammed Abacha's Involvement In Malabu Oil Scandal

The Niger Delta Peace Vanguard has condemned the actions of Mohammed Abacha, son of the late military dictator, Sani Abacha, saying they hinder the government’s progress in resolving the issues surrounding Malabu Oil and Gas (OPL 245).

In a statement jointly signed by Dr. B.I Princewill, Comrade Preye Nimijack, Ms. Queenet Morgan, and Hon. Festus Zifawei on Friday, the group accused Mohammed Abacha of spreading falsehood and engaging in economic sabotage.

The statement dated July 11, 2024 is titled, ‘Enough Is Enough For The Abacha Family, Especially Mohammed Abacha.’
