Battle for Rivers State: Former Chairman Challenges Governor's Authority in Court

opera.com 2024/9/28

In an interview on Tvc News with Samuel Nwanosike, the former chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, has accused Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, of attempting to spark a crisis in the state by seeking an interim injunction from a state high court that lacks jurisdiction.

Nwanosike argued that the Governor's decision to remove 23 local government chairmen and install caretakers violates a current court order, which mandates elected officials to lead local governments, not appointed caretakers. He emphasized that the court ruling upholds the legislation passed by the Assembly, chaired by Martins Amaewhule, which is the highest authority in the state.

Nwanosike expressed concerns that the Governor's actions may lead to chaos and undermine democratic values in Rivers State. He questioned the Governor's decision to seek an injunction from a court that lacks jurisdiction, suggesting that it may be a deliberate attempt to subvert the rule of law.
