Chairman Of The Young Progressive Party (YPP), Bishop Amakiri has aired his opinions concerning the ongoing construction of the highly-talked-about Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. While addressing this matter, he claimed the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project shouldn't be what the Federal Government is prioritizing at this difficult time in the country. He believed that the money being invested to achieve this Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway could be distributed into other important areas like Education, electricity, and security that are even more important for the average Nigerian.

Bishop Amakiri also stated clearly that there are several roads across the country that are presently bad and not being attended to. He was baffled by how the Federal Government is more interested in constructing the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway when other major roads being used by Nigerians daily are left in bad shape.

In an interview with Arise News Television, he said: "I think we have to discuss about Nation building and I have a problem with this gigantic project intended to be executed by this Government. We feel it is not expedient and it is actually not a priority at this moment that we are faced with the reality that the Government should begin to look inward to address those realities. As of today 10.5 million children between the age of 5-14 are out of school and what that means is that there is a danger which is looming. You just mentioned the humongous amount of money which we researched as 15.6 trillion naira from the words of the Minister Of Works. Break that money into four stages and give it to power that we don't have today just give 3 trillion naira to power, give another three trillion into education, give three trillion into security and you will see the multiplying effect that this will generate in the country".
