Governor Simba Arati announced he will join Generation Z protests today, supporting their movement to address the country’s current issues. During his visit to Kisii he met traders who suffered losses after looters destroyed their properties during Tuesday’s chaotic protests. He condemned those who attacked peaceful demonstrators and caused chaos.
Arati stressed the importance of leaders focusing on the needs of Kenyans rather than their own interests. He called on Kisii police to explain who was responsible for looting the shops and why they were protected.
He also visited Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital, where one protester was shot dead and 30 others were being treated for injuries, including two with gunshot wounds.
An expectant woman was among the injured. Due to fumes from burning tires, patients had to be moved from the Intensive Care Unit to safer areas within the hospital. An ambulance was also stoned during the protests.
Arati promised to compensate traders for their losses to help them recover. He urged Kisii political leaders who supported the Finance Bill to seek forgiveness from their constituents mirroring a similar plea from the President.
