Rivers:The Wike we know would have granted interviews but for sometime, he has been quiet-Oby Ndukwe
Oby Ndukwe, Editor-in-Chief of Beam Newspaper, has observed that former Governor Nyesom Wike's unusual quietness amidst the lingering political crisis in Rivers State may be attributed to intervention from higher authorities or a strategic decision to await court pronouncements.
In an interview with Arise News, Ndukwe noted that Wike's silence is uncharacteristic, as he was known for granting press interviews and speaking his mind. Ndukwe suggested that Wike may have been advised to keep quiet by the President or other authorities, given his current role as an aide to the President.
Ndukwe also posited that Wike's silence may be a tactical move to allow the court to make pronouncements on the matter. Meanwhile, Governor Fubara's increased vocalness has surprised many, showcasing a different side of his personality.
Ndukwe recalled that during the campaign, the APC had criticized Wike's choice of a successor, saying he was introverted and unable to address the public, a stereotype often associated with accountants. However, Fubara's recent statements have defied these expectations, leading Ndukwe to suggest that Wike's silence may be a deliberate attempt to let Fubara take center stage.
In her words;
"The Wike we know by now would have been granting press interviews and all that but for some time now, he has been quiet. It could be possible that he has been asked to. The President had intervened, he has spoken to them and of course, he is an aide to the President, He's no longer Governor so he he's under an authority"
"If the Authority says we don't want you to get involved in this anymore, he should also abide by that. Secondly, it's also possible they're waiting for the Court to make pronouncements and of course, when a matter is before the Court, you don't make comments and then of course, it's also good he stopped talking and the Governor is talking because we are now seeing the other side of the Governor unfold"
"In fact somebody said today that he didn't know that the Governor could be this vocal, so we're seeing a different man now. So that means there was some kind of packaging because I remember during the campaign, the APC was saying that Wike brought somebody who can't talk, who can't address the public and he also confirmed that as an Accountant, they don't talk much, Only Lawyers talk much"
