2003 born left footed versatile defender/midfielder set to leave Basel training camp to join Chelsea.
Chelsea have finalized an agreement with FC Basel to sign Renato Veiga for a fee of €14 million, with no sell-on clause included. The 20-year-old Portugal Under-20 international is set to undergo a medical in London and sign a contract with the club until 2032.
Veiga, who can play as a left-sided centre-back, left-back, or defensive midfielder, is expected to be utilized as an inverted full-back under the system of newly appointed head coach Enzo Maresca. Maresca, who took over from Mauricio Pochettino earlier this summer, sees Veiga as an ideal fit for his tactical approach.
Last season, Veiga made 26 appearances for FC Basel, scoring two goals and providing one assist. If the deal is completed, he will join Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Tosin Adarabioyo, Marc Guiu, and Omari Kellyman as Chelsea's new signings this summer.
