As President William Ruto engaged Kenyans on an X Space forum, His Excellency former Prime Minister Raila Odinga attended the burial ceremony of Hon. Maina Wanjigi.

Odinga paid tribute to Wanjigi, praising him as a true Kenyan patriot, a dedicated liberation figure, and a pioneer civil servant.

"He was a man with exemplary service to the nation, a former cabinet minister, and Kamkunji MP," Odinga stated through his social media accounts, acknowledging Wanjigi as the father of his friend, Jimi Wanjigi.

During the X Space forum, President Ruto addressed rising concerns over misconduct and opulent lifestyles displayed by some leaders within his administration, which have fueled public discontent amid ongoing anti-government protests.

Responding to a question from a participant who criticized nominated Senator Karen Nyamu for her frequent media controversies, Ruto confirmed he has personally addressed the issues with her

“I agree that some of our officials exhibit arrogance and display extravagant lifestyles that understandably anger the public,” Ruto stated. “There have been occasions when I’ve had to call these individuals and give them a piece of my mind.”

President Ruto revealed that he has had direct conversations with Senator Nyamu, advising her to change her public demeanor. He attributed her behavior to the excitement often experienced by young individuals in high positions of power.

“As the head of state, I sometimes have to take on a parental role, mentoring young leaders rather than dismissing them outright,” Ruto explained. “Karen Nyamu is someone I have spoken to directly, advising her to approach her role differently.”

Ruto also acknowledged the larger context of the ongoing protests, which have seen significant public unrest over the proposed Finance Bill 2024. The President reiterated his commitment to addressing the grievances of the youth, emphasizing the importance of mentorship and accountability among his team.

Additionally, President Ruto responded to concerns over heavy-handedness by security forces during the protests, promising that action would be taken against any rogue officers found guilty of misconduct. He encouraged Kenyans to provide evidence of any such incidents for proper ivestigation.
