FG’s Retirees Groan Under N230bn Pension Arrears

Federal retirees are suffering due to N230 billion in unpaid pension arrears, with no payments made in the first half of 2024. The legally mandated upward review of pensions has been suspended for 15 years. Pensioner groups suggest boycotting government securities, but experts advocate for regular dialogue and pressure from labor unions. The government's failure to release funds and implement pension adjustments has caused significant distress among retirees, many of whom wait over a year for benefits. Stakeholders emphasize the need for immediate and consistent pension payments to ensure retirees' well-being.
