Rights activist and lawyer, Madubuachi Idam, has called on President Bola Tinubu to relieve Nyesom Wike of his duties as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to enable him to focus on his political struggles in Rivers State. Idam believes that Wike's continued involvement in Rivers State politics is causing tension and instability in the state.
According to Idam, "I will be surprised if Tinubu delivers on his Renewed Hope mandate with the way he's going. I'm tempted to think that he enjoys the ongoing crisis in Rivers State." He added, "President Tinubu must prove that the lives and properties of all Nigerians, including Rivers people, matter to him much more than the votes he expects to harvest through Wike in 2027."
Base On Daily Post news, Idam questioned how President Tinubu feels about waking up every day to see Wike causing tension in Rivers State, and urged him to take action to address the crisis. He stated, "No leader should be entertained by the troubles of his subjects. President Tinubu must not be amused or entertained by the crisis in Rivers; he has to urgently relieve Wike of his ministerial duties so that he can go home and focus on his structure(s) since that is more important to him."
Idam's call comes amid an ongoing rift between Wike and Governor Sim Fubara over political control in Rivers State, which has led to a crisis in the state's legislative arm. Despite President Tinubu's intervention, the situation remains unresolved.
